Were you in the 2nd Battalion The Green Howards?
WELL THERE IS! Yes there is a 2nd Battalion Branch and if you haven't attended one of their meetings yet, then you're missing out on the fantastic pleasure that one gets from meeting up with an old buddy, that you haven't seen for years. I
and my wife Marlene attended today's meeting and thoroughly enjoyed
every minute of it. The meetings are held at Eden Camp, near
Malton. The camp, an ex-POW camp, converted into a WWII
museum, is itself worth a visit and makes a good day's outing.
It is the brainchild of ex-corporal Stan Johnson, now retired (and pennyless!) but he still takes up his post as Chairman of the Branch.

Eden Camp The secretary is Tom Heron; Tom does all the donkey work and is, in my opinion, a fine outstanding Gentleman, always polite and quick to offer a helping hand. If you see Tom in a crowd you'll spot him straight away, he stands two foot higher than anyone else! The 2nd Battalion Branch have also been delegated the task of organising Battlefield Tours. A task which, I can assure you, they carry out extremely well. My wife and I went on last year's tour and although we were a bit doubtful about going on such a tour, we were surprised to find that it was really enjoyable from beginning to end of the trip. Anyway, that's enough
of my rambling on, let's get back to you lads out there who were in the
2nd Battalion and haven't seen any of your mates since demob.
Why don't you make one last effort to be with the lads once again.
There's none of us getting any younger, so come on while you've got the
chance. Turn up at the next meeting and give us all a
happy surprise. If there's one thing that's certain, it's that
we'll make you extremely welcome. No fees - No formality -
just let us know who you are, because we'll probably not recognise you.
Oh, and bring your army photos along with you, we'd love to see them. Finally, although Stan Johnson is penniless, he refuses to take money from Green Howards, especially 2nd Battalion lads. So when you get to Eden Camp gates, DON'T PAY A PENNY!, just say "We're Green Howards and Proud of it!" The next meeting is at 11.30am, on Sunday 16th September 2007.
