Benidorm 2012
Time to
spread a bit of cheer for a change, 1st call to all
those that want to get away from it all and have a
nice break with fellow Green Howards and friends of
Green Howards.
It's the
5th Green Howards in the sun Benidorm tour and I am
hoping to pass the 'over 50 on parade' for
the 2nd year running,. I
know it's half term but the dates do not change and
it remains the 1st weekend in June.
Quite
a few have already booked up with most of them
flying Thursday 31st May. Please
remember; the aim of the exercise is firstly to have
a cracking good time in perfect company, but most
of all to remember all those Green Howards who
sadly cannot join us on parade. Please
spread the word and start getting the slush fund
sorted.
Lecture timings:
Please arrive for 1900-1915hrs for meet and drinks,
Lectures start at 1930hrs.
Happy New Year to everybody.
I'm gathering notes and obituaries for those Green
Howards who have died since the last Green Howard
magazine edition. The list below contains those departed
Green Howards that we know about. If you know of any
omissions or errors please let me know.
The names in brackets are those for whom we have
promised obituaries and photographs. Regarding the
remainder there must be some people out there who can
help us record their story e.g. birthplace, school,
service record, civilian employment, family and so on.
Please help - any notes plus welcome photos to me by 1

I attended the repatriation for Pte J King
Yorkshire Regt at the final turn near the
John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford wearing my
Yorkshire Regimental Tie, Bowler Hat and
Umbrella at the far end of the Standards in
the picture. The crowd was a little smaller
than usual as the flight came in delayed by
nearly 2 hours. The Final Turn takes place
for every Repat and is only part of the
route from the Repat Centre which is now in
Brize Norton.
Crowds like this are at Bridges,
Roundabouts, Shrivenham etc and the Boys
receive a great reception on their return.

TWO FANTASTIC BOOKS
These two books are worthy of a place
on any Green Howards' book shelf. They
are well written, full of interesting facts and details of men
who showed their bravery in past conflicts.
The price of "Beyond their Duty"
by Roger Chapman is only £8.50p and the price of "A breed apart"
by Richard Leeke is only £7.99p.
Copies of both books can be
acquired from The Green Howards Regimental Museum or any good
book store. You could also try your local library; if they
haven't got a copy then ask them to get one in stock.

A little tip
when you've selected the site you want to view on Internet Explorer, you
may not need the tool bars at the top of your screen. Just
press the f11 key (top row, 5th key from the right) and
the toolbars will disappear, giving you
more screen area to view what you want to view.
When you need the tool bars back again just press the f11 key again.
Happy surfing.............Ray
