Hi,

thought we would send you this photo of Toby proudly showing off his broken toe which we understand is now ok.   Both myself  and Pat cannot believe the change in him since his operation, you saw how he was before he went to America.    He still is not able to keep his balance for long but at least he can walk  if you hold his hand and he can walk a little better if he has hold of two hands.    The doctor in America said he expects him to walk totally unaided within six months.   We are both so proud of what he has achieved since  his operation as the saying goes things can only get better.

Cheers Pete and Pat XIX

Charles Daynes was presented on 3rd July with the Elizabeth Cross by The Lord Crathorne, Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire on behalf of his brother William J Daynes (Billy) who was killed in Serembam, Malaysia on 31st March 1950 whilst serving with the Green Howards.

Great news! Green Howards' Wartime Memoirs to be Published.

My Dad's second world war memoirs are to be published soon by war publisher Pen and Sword.  It's the autobiography of a British soldier (Bill Cheall), covering all of WW2, 1939-45 including Dunkirk, D-Day, Sicily and Tunisia, a voyage on the Queen Mary and being wounded in action. Some very gripping and at times poignant reading.

Visit www.grimdetermination.co.uk to read Chapter 1 and for more details.

I can't believe that after 30 years my Dad's memoirs are going to be published. Pen and Sword are a reputable war publisher so fingers crossed it does well.    If you go to the site below you can register for further info when available.    At some point I hope to be running a free competition for tickets to the movie premier at Leicester Square!

Kind regards

YOUR SUPPORT IS NEEDED.

To all loyal ex Green Howards who like to keep in touch and up to date:

As Secretary of The Friends of the Green Howards Regimental Museum (FGHM), I'm contacting as many ex Green Howards as possible, pleading for support in keeping the name of the Green Howards and the Museum a live.

You can all play a part by becoming a member of the FGHM, which only costs £16 a year (£10 for over 65).   For this you would receive a copy of the magazine "The Green Howard" in April and September (an excellent magazine) and free entry into the museum as often as you wish - excellent value for money.

If we don't increase membership numbers, the issue of two magazines a year could be in jeopardy, which would be a disaster for the memory of The Green Howards.

What's that saying? "Once and Howard always a Howard": so come on lads, prove it, lets rally to the Colours before they are marched off parade for the final time, on Friday 18 June 2010 - your Regiment needs your support.

For those who can give up £16 worth of beer and fags, you will find an application form on the Home Page under: The Friends of the Green Howards Museum, or email me if preferred.

I hope to be kept busy processing application forms before I depart for Benidorm.

Hope you are all keeping well?

                                                    Tony Warriner

                                                                                                     smile

I would like to support the comments made rececently by the FGHM Sec Tony Warriner. [16 April .] OUR Regimental Museum is a truly excellent one, it is very highly thought of by many outside of the Regiment. The Friends  committee are most energetic and do our Regiment proud. They do need extra funding.

The GREEN HOWARD magazine is a most professional publication.    No doubt every XIX will over this past year have donated to SSAFA, Brit Legion, ABF, BLESMA, and the high profile HELP For HEROES. etc,   The FGHM would not want you to give them any priority over these excellent charities.

We as a Regiment are not known for filling forms in, but in this case make an exception for Tony and the FGHM

A little tip

when you've selected the site you want to view on Internet Explorer, you may not need the tool bars at the top of your screen.   Just press the f11 key (top row, 5th key from the right) and the toolbars will disappear, giving you more screen area to view what you want to view.

When you need the tool bars back again just press the f11 key again.    Happy surfing.............Ray
