David Nicholson (Originally from Sunderland, served in Malaya with the 2nd Battalion 1948ish)

I am the Branch Secretary of The Royal British Legion, Welwyn Garden City, Herts. One of our members, who was in the Green Howards (and never let any of us forget it) died on Saturday morning. His name was David Nicholson and he was a past Branch Chairman.
His widow has asked for the local  RBL Branch to provide an Honour Guard at his funeral. There will also be members of the local RNA Branch present.

My request is whether a Standard Bearer from your Association would be prepared to attend the funeral to parade alongside the RBL and RNA.
If someone could attend I can liaise directly with them.  I can be contacted on 07879 256179 or 01707 887390

David was immensely proud of having served in the Green Howards and I think it would be fitting if the regiment was represented.
I hope you can assist.

BAND CONCERT – 4 OCTOBER

From 1958 - 1968 we were the Band of the 4/5 Green Howards TA.  It was decided that when we were disbanded we would form a civilian band and 40 years later we are still going strong. We are a band of over 40 with an age range from 12 to 80 and it is the only adult wind band within a 40 mile radius of Scarborough.

We are giving a concert on the 4th October at Queen Street Methodist Central Hall Scarborough starting at 7.30pm as part of our 40th year celebrations.

If any members serving or non serving would like to come they would be more than welcome.  Further information can be obtained from:

GREEN HOWARDS ASSOCIATION  ANNUAL REUNION 2008

I can now confirm that the Regimental Reunion will take place on the weekend 24th/25th/26th October 2008 at the TA Centre, Coldyhill Lane, Scarborough with the kind permission of the Commanding Officer, 4th Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment.

Due to the increased costs this year to the GHA for TA Staff wages (£1.5K), Band Fees and world economy affecting the price of fish and chips, the cost of tickets has had to be increased.

The cost of a full ticket (Fri/Sat/Sun) is £25.00.  Cost of a day ticket for either day Saturday or Sunday is £9.00.

Tickets are available from the Headquarters at Richmond.  Cheques should be made payable to ‘The Green Howards Association’.

A Glimpse of the Green Howards Past

This little Gem of a book was sent to me by Yvonne Forster, the daughter of the late Joe Forster.   It was amongst her Dad's souvenirs and she thought, quite rightly, that we should all enjoy reading it.

It's a recruiting booklet published in the early sixties and is well worth a read, especially by our presently serving lads of the Green Howards Battalion.   Click the link below and have a good laugh!
