We do agree with the sentiments of your letter and will be investigating further the possibility of offering the freedom of the town to the Green Howards. Once we have any further information we will let you know.

Dear Councillor Bucknell
I write on behalf of the Town Council and residents of Whitby to send our thanks and respect to your town who represent each and every one of us here in Whitby and I am sure throughout the country when our brave soldiers are returned home.
You may not be aware but the families within Whitby and the surrounding villages like so many other places within the UK have been affected by the ongoing disruption in the Middle East, and although we are extremely proud of our armed forces, the large number of your residents, representatives and organisers who all regularly turn out to show their respect on behalf of us all make us appreciate all the more the ultimate sacrifice these men and women have made to protect us all.
Words cannot express the deep feelings of respect and gratitude we all have for your townsfolk who we feel represent us all during these sad times and unfortunately the times to come – again thank you for being there for us all.
