- Can't see latest updates -
it sounds as if your computer is not
downloading the page every time you visit. A
computer will store pages you visit, then if you visit a page a second
or more times, instead of downloading the page again, it gets
the old page that it has stored away in your internet cache files.
You are probably viewing the same old page that is on your computer.
Try this:- Open
your internet explorer. At the top of the
explorer there are menu buttons; (File Edit
View Insert Format Tools Action Help).
Click on Tools. A small
menu box will drop down. Near the bottom of the menu is
Internet Options..., click on
Internet Options... Another
box will appear, this box will have seven tabs across the top.
Each tab, when clicked, will bring a different page to the top.
Make sure that the General page is on the
top, by clicking on the General tab.
The General page has
three horizontal boxes on it. The first is headed
(in blue print) Home Page,
the second is headed Tempory Internet
files, this is the box we're interested
in. Inside this box there are three buttons, click on the
one headed Delete Files..., a small box
will pop up asking you if you want to delete all Tempory Internet
files. Click the little box, headed Delete
all offline content, then click the OK
button.
You'll now be back at the
Tempory Internet files box, next to the
Delete Files... button is the
Settings... button. Click on the
Settings... button, a new box will pop
up. The top line of print says ' Check for newer
versions of stored pages:' Below this line of
print there are four circular choice buttons, make sure the top one,
headed 'Every visit to the page' is
clicked. It should have a dot in the circle, the
other three circles should be empty. Now click on the OK
button, at the bottom of the page.
This will make sure you get the most recent version of every page you
open.
NB: The idea behind storing pages
visited was to save time, and telephone cost, because the old dial-up
connection to the internet was so slow and costly. Broadband
has changed all this, with it's speed and consequently more cost
effectiveness. If you are not on broadband then
you need to weigh up the advantages between;
1 downloading every time you visit a page
(slower & costly) or 2 have your computer store
pages, so that you may not see the latest update to those pages (Quicker
& cheaper) or 3 switch to Broadband (extremely
fast & reasonably cheap)
