ONE MAN ONE PANEL

This is a personal account of a Green Howards' ( Jimmy Dickinson) experience in the second world war.  It was written in a letter to his friend Fred Cooper who lived at Billingham, near Middlesboro.    Fred gave the letter to our friend Chippy Chapman.   Chippy has been in possession of the letter for about ten years and has decided to pass it on to me so that you and I can share Jimmy's account.

Chippy wrote:    I think it's only fitting that other people should have an opportunity to read it.    Instead of it been stuck here gathering dust.

Jimmy's letter is a rather lengthy account so I have decided to split it into a number of parts and publish it on the site one part at a time.

If you pay by the minute for your web access, then I suggest you print it out and read it when you go off line.   To do this -  put your mouse button on the page - click the right button - on the popup menu box click Print

If you haven't got a  printer, or don't want to waste paper and ink, then do the following:

Open the page that you want to read.  Don't read it, but wait till it's fully loaded, then close it.  Carry on surfing the site or the net.

When you've done surfing, close your browser and the connection to your server.

Now you can surf off-line.  To do this, re-open your browser but when your prompted to connect to your server, click on 'Work off-line' instead.

Now at the top of your browser click on the 'History' button.   A menu box will drop down.   On it there should be 'Last Week' - 'Monday' - 'Tuesday' -etc.,   The last menu heading will be 'Today'.    Click on 'Today' and you should see a list of all the sites you've visited today.

Click on  'xixray.users.btopenworld.com' you will then get a list of pages you have visited.   Click on 'index' you will then be able to surf the site off-line, just as you did while you where on line.

Please note that you will not be able to view pages that you did not view whilst you were connected to the web.

Please note also: The above instructions apply to MS Internet Explorer.  Other  types of browsers may differ and I have no experience with those.
