PRESENTATION OF NEW COLOURS – 18^th JUNE 2010

As many of you will be aware all four Battalions of the Regiment will be presented with new Colours on Friday the 18^th June 2010 at Imphal Barracks, York. This letter is intended to act as a warning order for associations and to brief on the expected format of the event. I would be grateful if you could discuss this matter with your members and disseminate details accordingly. As we get nearer the date I will follow up with more details and invite applications for tickets.

The outline programme of events is as follows

Friday 18^th June 2010.

The Presentation of new Colours will take place late morning followed by a lunch in Marquees set up in front of the messes at Imphal Barracks. The presentation will be made by our Colonel in Chief and we will have all four Battalions on parade marching off seven sets of colours and being presented with four new ones. It is hoped that some association members will be able to participate as the new Colours are marched off.

Saturday 19^th June 2010.

This will be the first opportunity to show our new Colours to the general public and in order to do this with style we intend to conduct a march to church through the centre of York. With a band and four Battalions on parade this will probably be the largest military parade York has seen for many years. The march will pass through York to the Minster where we intend to hold a small service. Following this we will move to Imphal Barracks for a curry lunch.

Whilst planning is at an early stage and final costs have yet to be confirmed, there will be charge for those attending the lunches.

Details will continue to be published on the website during the coming months but for the meantime associations might want to note the date in their diary early.

This is a unique event for the Yorkshire Regiment and its antecedents and will be a memorable occasion. I do hope you and your members will be able to support it and I look forward to providing further details in due course.
