 RICHMOND SUNDAY AND LAYING UP OF OLD COLOURS

SUNDAY 22^ND MAY 2011

  As many of you will know, it is planned to combine Richmond Sunday 2011 with the Laying Up of the Old Colours of the former 1^st and 2^nd Battalions of The Green Howards; this will be an historic moment for us all, as many of us will have served under one or other Stand of Colours.

  We hope to have our normal Richmond Sunday March to Frenchgate, to lay the wreath on our Memorial, then March to Richmond Castle for a Drum Head Service to receive both sets of Colours.  Following the service, Gold and Silver Badges will be presented and a light lunch and drinks will be served in a marquee.  As well as the GHA attending there will be representatives from the 2^nd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards) and possibly representatives from the 4^th Battalion (TA).

  Initial planning is underway and it is necessary to have an estimate of likely numbers attending, in order to plan suitable tentage, food and drink etc.  Each GHA Member may bring one guest and we need to know likely numbers as soon as possible could I ask you therefore to let Dennis Appleyard at RHQ know no later than the 30^th September 2010, if you will be attending.
